Massanutten WaterPark
The Massanutten WaterPark (indoor portion) is 42,000 sq. ft. and has 342,665 gallons of moving water. Under the high-tech UV transparent roof, it’s summer all year long.
What can you do? A lot!
- You can enjoy the central three-story playground, Massanutten Meltdown, with water canons, waterfalls, a giant tipping bucket, and water slides.
- Drift through the Blue Ridge Rapids in your personal tube.
- Entertain your little ones in Frog Pond wading pool with a kiddy slide, swings, and a water depth of only 12”.
- For the wave riders, there’s Pipeline, a surf simulator that pumps thousands of gallons of water toward you per minute.
- Climb the Glacier Trail up three stories and race down the body slides, Avalanche and Skyline Falls.
- Or, grab a tube and take the twisting plunge down Country Cooler, Melting Mogul or Peak Splash, water slides that take you through dramatic drops and hairpin curves to the base.
- When you need a rest, relax in the Shenandoah Hot Springs hot tub.
The central attraction of Massanutten WaterPark is Massanutten Meltdown. This is a gigantic water feature which is built like a wooden fort with rope climbing nets, five slides, water cannons to shoot at the rafts on the lazy river, various sized water buckets tipping over unexpectedly that range from small ones you could carry to a huge bucket that soaks everyone who gets anywhere in the vicinity.
Avalanche and Skyline Falls are more advanced versions of the twisty body slides on Massanutten Meltdown. They are an enclosed 250 foot body slide ride which ends in a trough of water on the second level. Avalanche is in the dark while Skyline Falls allows light in.
There are also three longer “raft” enclosed slides: Country Cooler, Melting Mogul and Peak Splash. It's up to you if you want to ride in a single tube or a double tube. Melting Mogul is completely in the dark while Country Cooler has a green translucent enclosure which allows light in. Peak Splash is supposedly more extreme with fast moving water and multiple drops. These rides all end in a splash pool so swimming skills are important.
There are at least two hot tubs. There's a huge indoor/outdoor hot tub called Shenandoah Hot Springs near the Pipeline in which children are allowed. It seats at least twenty people inside. There's also a smaller adult only hot tub tucked away back near the whirlpool of Blue Ridge Rapids.
There is a small children's area called the Frog Pond for tiny visitors. They have a Frog slide where the child slides down the frog's tongue into twelve inches of water. There are also some noodles that spray water and some bouncy swings.
Food: On the water park level, you have one option which is Snackers. This is a good place for lunch. It's your usual counter service type of snack bar with hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches, fries, small salads, chips and Dipppin' Dots ice cream. There's the expected amusement park markup but it isn’t exorbitant. Seating is plentiful with large tables, and oversized heavy chairs with plastic webbing.
A better option for dinner is the Blue Ridge Buffet which is on the top floor. You have to change out of your bathing suit to dine here. This is a buffet, a few steps above a Shoney's. They do have hand carved meats and more choices. Pricing is reasonable
Snow Tubing (see attached pictures)
Peaked Mountain Express Tube Park. Enjoy the thrill of a 900-foot-long hill and easy transportation to the top on the SunKid Wonder Carpet. Sessions are two-hour long beginning at 9 a.m.
Temperature, wind and precipitation each affect the speed of snow tubing. Snowmaking may be in progress as temperatures permit. Weather and track conditions permitting, they allow "training" or "chaining" of tubes.
Restrictions: Children must be at least 36" tall to tube. One person - one tube, no exceptions.
Here’s the bottom line for our group reservation:
WaterPark
WaterPark hours 10AM to 10PM
WaterPark Full-Day Pass = $25/person (normal admission is $38/person)
- includes a $3 Diamond Jim’s Arcade card for each person
Snow Tubing
They DO NOT allow reservations on Saturdays; however they made an exception for us since we may have a very large group.
Snow Tubing hours 9AM to 10PM
Tickets = $22/person
I would recommend we go for the 9AM session then head to the WaterPark for the rest of the day.
I think the Pack should subsidize the cost of each Scout's WaterPark ticket by $10-15
